Recent Pics of Yoshi

The other day Nick fed Yoshi a cricket, he put the cricket on top of a piece of watermelon to get it to stay still, and well yoshi got over enthusiastic and bit off more than she could chew

she did get the cricket tho,and eventually to our amazement swallowed the watermelon too

By the end ofthe week we should have taken delivery of Yoda a male grandis who will hopefully be Yoshi's future partner
obviously we won't be putting him with her immediately he'll be quartined and we'll be let him get used to us for a while as apparently he's quite skitish, will hopefully have photo's next week if he not too much of a scaredy gecko

Yoshi is so beautiful! Now you have sparked my interest and I will have to know more about this type of lizard. I can't stand seeing something new and not finding out more info. I love the bright colors and the cute face!

lol yeh she is a bit chunky

the last of the pics is actually the oldest she has slimmed down a little, not sure if you can see the difference, its all because she gets ravenous during the course of producing eggs (infertile ones at the moment) and we knowing she needs to keep her strength up and get plenty of nutrients into her are a bit too generous, it was last year that did the damage it was the first time she'd started laying eggs and we discovered she'd take crickets and worms from our hands

she's laying eggs again, she laid 2 eggs for the first time last week (i think as she keeps leaving them different places and will eat them, since their infertile, to reabsorb the calcium)

I only ever feed 1 or 2 insects occassionally now and leave her to go get the rest herself, although right now I'm a little wary as she's accidentally nipped me twice in her haste to get the insect (she's gets the insect too just over does it and nearly gets a bit of me, it doesn't really hurt but i'm slightly jumpy)
she's still my little princess tho

That balancing pic is too awesome. Yosh is so well socialized for a sticky gecko! And she's looking very plump these days- perhaps it was the watermelon. I think if I stuck a camera in Fiona's cage she would lose it.
It makes me want a day gecko.

When we were at the zoo today we saw a day gecko like Yoshi. Except that Yoshi is much cuter. :love5:

I love going to Zoo's I haven't been in ages, going to really good pet shops is good too, unfortunately (or fortunately for our bank balance) there aren't any of either too close to us anymore

Hi Kerry, she is a little plump more so from time to time when she's producing eggs, although i think i picture 2 & 3 she had recently laid, not entirely sure about the others.
Yoshi never used to like the camera but now she's generally really good at tolerating it, but it took a fair amount of work to get where we are. As you know day gecko interaction is centred around food, hence the reason she's so well fed, i did try to cut down a bit, its so hard when she looks at you with that cute little face tho :roll: . The thing she doesn't like is being misted, i get a reaproachful look then she goes to hide when i do this

We'll soon be finding out whats its like to deal with a not so tame day gecko, i'm so excited
bamboo arrived yesterday thermostat and some decor has arrived just now, tomorrow Yoda arrives (need to find a smiley that does a little dance of joy)

I've never seen a day gecko. She is REALLY pretty. I especially like that last pic of her turning her head to the camera with a "come-hither" look. hehe.

Yoda arrived late last night (the couriers out delayed by other deliveries it was around 12.30 when he finally arrived :shock: ) but he got here safely

We only snapped one pic of him in the travel tub before he he disapeared into his tank (at a fair speed) it doesn't do him justice but here it is

Hi ronni1221 , thank you here's some pics that show more of Yoshi's viv,

we're actually going to change/improve it a little put more bammboo in there for her too climb on with the horizontal basking branch higher and self supporting, using magnets on the outside and a supporting u shaped metal plate on the inside, some of my other halfs work mates are making and painting the metal plates for him which will take a little while as they a bit busy (he works as a programmer in a company that makes industrial robotics machines)

will take some pics of Yoda's home, as i think it looks better than Yoshi's now , soon and hopefully get some pics of Yoda too

She is soooooooo gorgeous!! I really have a soft spot for day geckos. They are amazing. Yoshi is a pretty girl. Congrats with the eggs!
