Ok I have a Juvie who was eating, drinking, being a normal beardie last night and woke up to a lethargic baby with sunken eyes and acting like he was dying... Cage temps are 98F in the basking spot and 80's in the cooler spots... Aries was doing great last night and was being himself (fitting to his name "God of War")... Got woke up this moring by one of the girls who was crying cuz he was in the bottom of the cage on the cool side and not doing good... Has anyone ever had this to happen? He just had a vet check (fecal and the whole 9 yards) and was given a clean bill of health... yesterday he ate 12 half in crickets, and a teaspoon of greens, veggies, banana puree, a few soft beardie pellets, and some Juvie ZooMed Can Diet and was climbing around and chasing everything that moved... I swear in all the years of keeping beardies i have never had this happen...
I have him in an ICU cage with warm water, and giving him pedilyte mixed with some blueberry and banana puree and is taking it with out any problem and is pulling around just great... my vet told me to keep giving him that and to add some crickets, calcium dust, and vitamin dust to the next mix of the stated mix to add some protien to keep his energy up...
Your vet has given you good advice, keep doing that!
Also you need to get your basking temp up it's WAY to low for a beardie of any age. Get it up to as close to 110F as you can! If your beardie's aren't sitting around in their tanks with their mouths open now and then their not basking and it's not healthy.
Do they have a UVB source and calcium daily? If not they need that as well.
That is too bad, how is he doing now? Have you gotten him more hydrated yet?
If he is severely dehydrated, don't overload him on protein or it may be hard on his kidneys right now. Plenty of oral fluids, a daily bath & some greens slurries should help him out tremendously.
Nuts - that's not good. Keep up with the rehydration and lots of baths, 3 a day if you can - 15 minutes a time, gently warm.
I'm hoping it's not kidney failure - my Kyle sadly passed away from a congenital kidney defect. It could just be something he ate made him vomit though, that's one of the main causes for dehydration - are there any signs of this, or diarrhoea?
