I read on this forum stories about people letting their dragons ran around the house. I would like to do this too but I need to know how to do it properly. when I let my dragons out they want to run behind the tv, or under the couch, or try to crawl behind the refrigerator. another problem is I don't know when they're going to poop and they've pooped on the floor before. I would like advice on what you guys do to avoid these problems. also I need information on making a hotspot for them so that I don't set fire to my carpet or anything. I own two adult dragons and I have 1 year experience.
Use towels to close off any spaces they might hide in and keep a really close eye on them. Close doors to other rooms, I've even used a baby gate to keep them contained in the living room.
For a hotspot, put some kind of large flat rock or paving stone on the floor for a basking spot.
thank you for your reply. I have a small tank that I feed them in that I use to make my hot spot with the clamp lamp facing out into the room. I was always afraid at 97 degrees that it would set my carpet on fire. I never used a rock, just a little wooden turtle hut that they could sit on. I didn't do it very often definitely not for very long. how about the pooping on the floor? they carry bacteria and maybe sometimes pinworms, I wouldn't wanna get that in my carpet. what do you do?
I don't worry about the poo, lol. If they go, I clean it up and don't worry about germs. I have three dogs who are lots grosser then a dragon can ever be.
You can try giving them a bath first, see if they will go in there.
