My gecko has everything perfect in his cage but he never goes into his rock cave. I've heard that they need multiple places to hide and sleep, also my rock cave is an average size for his length. Im wondering what's the best ground shelter for him? Please write back.
What kind of gecko? If it's a leopard gecko, he probably doesn't want to hide in the little shelter because he just doesn't like it, lol. You can use anything, as long as it's clean. From log hides to rock hides, to plastic containers with a hole cut out of it so they can get into it. What kind of little hide do you have already?
I have a CRESTED Gecko and he's about 8 1/2 inches long and the rock cave is 6'' by 4''. I dont know if its too small or if he dosen't like it. Im wondering whats the best ground shelter like a big rock cave or a half cut coconut Bungalow with a whole in the front....... Please write back.
A CRESTED? Dx you really don't need any hides, then. The best thing you can have for them is extra(tall) climbing space, and leaves large enough for them to hang out on, or hide inside of. Keep your current cave because he might use that eventually as a hide at night when he is waiting for crickets to walk by or something That's what mine does.
EDIT* If you already have that coconut bungalow kinda thing, he would probably like that more than a rock cave
Mine go in their hides all the time but my hides are up higher. They very rarely go down to the ground. Mine have cork bark tubes that come out from the wall of their tanks. One is 1/2 up and the other is almost at the top. They both use them, but not all the time. They often prefer to just sleep in the foliage.
It's most likely because I keep my little guys food on the ground that he even goes down there. When he IS on the floor and he sees a cricket he will hide until it comes near and he grabs it xD But if he's not hungry he's up high creeping around xD
