Hi! I just bought a 3 yr old male from the pet store 2 days ago. He was quite active as far as digging (and trying to escape at first), but now he lays basking on his log for a long time. I just want to know if this is normal. He has been doing it for about an hour and a half. I have growing concerns about his hydration. I have made him a zucchini, squash, celery, and shredded carrot mix dusted with repticalcium. He loves the zucchini. I have not seen him drink a drop of water though. This concerns me. I wish I could post a pic, because he has slight wrinkling on his sides. I wasnt sure if it's normal for it to be slightly wrinkly so they could puff up. He also had his first bath today. I couldn't tell if he loved it or hated it. :/ any input would be greatly appreciated!
Hello there!
From my experience you wont normally see the dragons drink. When they are babies and you spray them they let the water drip off the faces into their mouths. I bath my dragons once or twice a week in luke warm water. Their skin soaks up the water hydrating them, they also drink some of the bathwater im told but have not seen that happen. I wouldnt worry about your dragon drinking to much, just make sure you spray (mist) them a couple of times a week and give them a bath. They also get water from the veggies and greens they eat. As for basking that seems pretty normal to me. SOmetimes my dragons will stay in the same spot for half to most of the day, sometimes they are all over the place. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
Most beardies don't drink from still water since in the deserts of Australia where they come from there is very little still water. In the wild they will bathe in the rain or drink drops of dew off the leaves of trees in the morning. To keep your beardie hydrated you need to mist and bathe them regularly. For your beardie since he is 3 misting him every second day and giving him a bath once a week will be good.
As for the wrinkles on his sides this is normal, nothing to worry about
