Earlier today I was given a bigger lizard tank through a friends friend. It had some fake plants(these are already in the trash), branches (possibly drift wood?), a large water bowl, a hide and under tank heater. I picked it up, took it home, left it in the bathroom for a good cleaning later and left to a friends house for a few hours. I just found out that the lizard previously in the tank died of mites :,c and it hasnt been touched since (literally sitting exactly the same in their living room as if they had their lizard in it still. Super weird to me but to each their own I guess.) Hes since been gone for 6 months and I'm just wondering how long mites can live without a host and what possibility my beardie could get mites from the tank being in the same house, completely different floors and rooms of the house but as a concerned lizard mom I'm worried I couldve picked them up on me and carried them near my baby in my room. Also how should to clean and sanitize it to be sure theres no mites? Should I throw away everything or is anything salvageable? I'm on a tight budget after a super costly vet visit last week but I dont want her tank to be bare. I'll post pictures of the new tank. Sorry this was so long!
