Hi,
I plan on adopting my third (first of my own) Bearded Dragon from A1 Reptiles in or before August for my birthday. I say my third Dragon because my roommate had two of her own that I would take care of while we lived together. Anyway, I am going to go to PetSmart to get all things Dragon since when I compared the prices (online at least) to PetCo's it's cheaper. Sooooo, I'm going to to keep my setup the same as how A1 has their Dragons setup.... they use Peat Moss as part of their substrate; can I substitute any other moss for that?
I'm going to be purchasing:
40 gallon breeder tank
Temperature controller
An above tank basking spot for optimum tank space
Calcium with D3 of course
Vitamins
Vines and other climbing accessories
A basking light and a CHE
My substrate is going to be topsoil without fertilizers and perlite- this is what A1 uses, so I'm going to use it to help transition into a different area
Digital Thermometer
Ditch the substrate idea and use tile instead. Easy to clean and will keep his/her nails trimmed. Also, make sure to place the UVB Reptisun 10.0 flourescent fixture inside the enclosure. Mesh will cut out some of the UVB.
Everything sounds good except for the substrate. Use something that doesn't have little particles. You can use tile, repti-carpet, paper towels, or newspaper. What is the moss for exactly?
Oh and one more thing. I tried to use tile as my substrate. It didn't look nice and would hold poo in. It also didn't trim their nails.
Yes no subsrate. But other then that sounds good. I would be careful with such a big tank though. If you are getting a small baby it might freak them out. I know it did mine.
