So, I've been looking at getting a Red headed Agama and this question popped into my mind earlier this week, Bearded Dragons and Agamas seem to have similar behaviors and are both shown as social reptiles, so would i be able to have them both out at the same time for handling, or would they not like one another? This was just something I was curious since when it grows up it will be about the bearded dragon's size, so i wanted to know if these two would end up not liking each other or if I could let them have supervised interactions.
Agamas are happiest in groups and naturally adopt a hierarchy within the group which will consist of the dominant male, submissive juvenile males and females. It is advised if you want to keep agamas to buy them in a group of at least three, but keeping males together can be tricky especially during breeding season as they may fight for territory which in the wild would result in the winning dominant male chasing the submissive male from the territory. In an enclosed area this could result in severe injuries to one or both of the males
With that being said, I don't think I would risk them meeting each other. If they are smaller your dragon might see them as a chance meal!!!
Also, I would get 1 male and 2 females to keep them happy.

Alright thank you, like i said above, my bearded dragon isnt much larger then an Agama. This was just a random thought I had, and thank you for the advise.
Red head agamas are only similar in care to beardies for their heat preference and insect eating. And like was said, you definitely don't want to have them out together.....beardies would attack quickly in most cases. If your dragoon is an adult, he'll be much larger . esp. body mass.
Bearded dragons and red head agamas both belong to the agama family [ agamidae ] There are over 60 types of agamas, as well as a couple hundred subspecies so there are some that hang out in groups, other types of agamas that are more solitary. Most red head agamas are wild caught and rather flighty, they need a large tank with lots of rocks + a few branches [ but you may find some that are captive born ]....do you know where you'd be getting it from and if it's C.B. ?
