So I just bought my new baby beardie, and had a question in reference to handling. Hopefully this is the right area, and if not, I'm sorry!
He is fairly young, my understanding would be only a couple months (only 5-6inches long). So what are some things I can try as far as handling? I'd like him to get used to me, so I can take him out and play. But as of now, he just seems super cautious and tries to jump out of the tank and scurry off. My previous experience with beardies was with a much older one, who was very comfortable being handled, so I'm at a loss.
Should I wait? And what are some things I could try to get him used to me? Picture below for size:
He will likely grow into handling. The young ones tend to be energetic and curious and love to leap out of your hands to go running around. The best thing I've found to do is to hold him in the evening around lights out (and after). He's less likely to have the energy to put up a fight and will probably just fall asleep on you. After a while that will help him get used to you.
