PVC is popular with snake keepers. It's light weight, easy to clean, waterproof and sturdy. It also tends to be expensive for big cages.
Melamine is stupid heavy. I don't use it since I don't understand when it is and isn't toxic. Some of the melamine boards are also sensitive to water.
