My beardie had chronic sinusitis for 2 years. It finally cleared up after a round of ceftazidime but he immediately started having GI issues. Coccidia, diarrhea, bacterial infection, coccidia rinse and repeat. He has diarrhea and coccidia again after he was just treated for it 6 weeks ago and has a negative Ova and Parasite test from 4 weeks ago. He has been refusing solid food for just under a month*. He’ll pick up veggies he would normally love, eat a bite and refuse the rest. Sometimes he even spits it back out. I have been making purée which he has been eating without issue, but I wanted to see if anyone had any additional suggestions. I use 2-4 ounces of baby food, a heaping tablespoon of Oxbow Critical Care Omnivore, a few servings of mustard greens, and a couple of teaspoons of water. This week I plan on trying bok choy instead of mustard greens. He eats 1-2 tablespoons of this a day. The baby food I have been adding only has the listed vegetable and water. The baby food flavors I’ve been adding are butternut squash, green beans, sweet potato, carrot, and a pear/guava/strawberry (mixed flavor). I’m curious to see if anyone else uses a purée diet. I want to make sure he’s getting as many nutrients as he can while he’s fighting off whatever this is. *note: he also has dental disease but the doctor has said it’s not severe enough to cause an aversion to solid food. She said I should pretty much feed him whatever he’ll eat and we’ll revisit this aversion once he’s healthy. Thanks!
