Potential aspiration and ongoing R.I.

My beardie, toffee who is around 10+ months old has had treatment for an R.i. She was on baytril for 2 weeks, and though it didn't cure her of the clicking sound when breathing sometimes she hasn't gotten any worse, and the vet couldn't find any indications of anything other than that - he told me he had checked her chest, throat etc and couldn't find anything - she was basically completely healthy other than being a little overweight. Today I was browsing, and read about water aspiration. I figured that perhaps she had accidentally aspirated some sort of liquid, whether it be by me adminstering medication or something along those lines. I held her upside down, and she sort of weezed a little and when I opened her mouth there was a lot of what seemed like spit or liquid (what seemed like water) come up in there which she quickly fought to swallow down. Her breathing quickly cleared up and went back to normal and she brightened back up. Would this have been some water that may have gone into her lungs? While the clicking hasn't gone compeltely at this point - would this have helped or made anything worse? I'm not sure how quickly their illnesses can be cured or helped. There aren't really any reptile specialists where I live in scotland so maybe one of you could help me out.

She tends to lie under her basking furniture more than she used to nowadays, and doesn't always move to bask in the mornings. Though this sounds concerning, when let out of her enclosure she runs around like a madman and jumps and climbs and stuff, and when in the cage is still very alert. She hasn't blackbearded, she only really got a little annoyed when I held her up to attempt to clear water from her lungs.

Just in case you need it, the basking temp for her ranges from about 110- 100 depending on where she stands, her night time temps are around 67 and she has an arcadia 12% tube with a reflector, t8 about 11 inches away from where she usually stands.

Does anyone have any advice?

Yes are you still giving the meds? If so make sure you go in from the side of the mouth take your thumb and pull the bottom lip down and slide the syringe in the side when she opens her mouth slowly push medication in -- go real slow --- let her swallow what you put in before adding more -- you do not want her aspirating and its good she got down what was in there -- let it drain out if you haft to -- what are you using for a UVB and basking temps are being taken w/a digital probe thermometer? NO coils -- her basking and UVB is very important especially if shes not feeling good

It was a 2 week thing - it made her lose her appetetite a bit and that's not fully recovered yet so I've tried giving her some reptoboost just in case. I always had issues getting her to actually open her mouth as she would always clamp it shut no matter how much I teased the side some sometimes I would have to squeeze the front of her jaw a little to tease it open, then I'd go in from the side and gradually push the medication in - its all chewed up now lol. Uvb is a new arcadia 12% tube. Basking spot temps regulated with a dimming thermostat, digital probe thermometer + temp gun.

Ok so it may take a while to bounce back but hopefully shes on the mend -- I would keep an eye on her weight tho--- kitchen food scale and weigh in grams

Yes, bought some scales but I'm really bad at keeping up with measuring her, though my vet said between appointments that she'd actually put on weight, even though she wasn't eating as much as usual. She still goes crazy for waxworms though lol but gone off fruit beetle grubs completely.

Please cut back nn the wax worms --- they are very fatty and can cause liver damage down the road if fed too many --- get her some super worms silk worms great staple feeder or butter worms ---

No, they're not her staple, I haven't had any for a couple of months so I got some a few days ago and it's the only thing she'll put a lot of effort into going for. Usually she gets gutloaded dubias and gutloaded superworms.

I encourage her to eat salads and prepare new foods each day but she usually ignores them, even when I try to hand feed. I've tried bee pollen which worked for a while but she stopped caring, mixing it in with worms which just made her ignore everything, withholding food untill later on in the day which actually used to work when she was a little younger but now doesn't work - she never really has any interest. I've recently tried pak choi, spring greens, kale, little bits of tomato, grapes, raspberries, blueberries, red pepper, butternut squash. She used to eat more veggies when she was younger before this all begun - but it was still negligible.

Annoyingly she'll only really eat calciworms if I hand feed them to her, if I put them in her salad she'll look at them intently, realise they're in salad and then go back to intently staring at them.

Usually I would, but everywhere here in Scotland is sold out of the large ones, nor do I have the time and patience to grow small ones only for them to all die 3 days later lol. I see about butterworms, Ive looked everywhere for some but no one seems to stock it

Hello,

Sorry your girl is having some trouble. Usually Baytril will clear up most respiratory issues,
but you might consider doing some nebulizer treatments to help with clearing out the lungs.
Are you keeping her a little warmer overnight, to help boost her immune system?
What is the humidity in her tank?

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
