Possibly Blind in One Eye

I have created a previous post about my beardies health under the emergency tab and have decided to write this one under this tab, because it isn't that urgent, but I would like opinions.

My beardie, Sherlock, is about 6 months old now. He just went to the vet last month for loose stool and him closing his right eye and keeping it closed. When I took him we had given him parasite medicine and they had given me drops for his eyes thinking something got in his eye and the vet had told me that it didn't seem that he lost any vision in his eye, which relieved me at the time, but at this point I think he was wrong.
Keep in mind his eye has never secreted liquid of any type, there is nothing visible on his eye, he just keeps it closed and only opens it on certain occasions.
I have a suspicion that he might have lost some, if not all, his vision in that eye. When it is feeding time if it is on his right side, his eye is open, he doesn't register the bugs at all, while the ones on his left he notices immediately and attacks them.

My question is, if he is blind in one eye now, will he be fine? He acts like his normal adventures and inquisitive self. I have looked to see if this questions was asked and found nothing. If I have a pirate beardie, I am more than alright with that, I just want to know if he will be fine and be able to adapt.
I try to do things where he can see me or see the things around him in his left, should I do anything different?
I do plan to take him to the vet again to confirm my suspicions.

Thanks!

I have a dragon that has lost his vision - he can see movement but is very bad at getting bugs it takes awhile for him to get them into his mouth - my vet told me he has a cataract on one eye and the other the cornea is not round like it should be - I have been syringe feeding him critical care for a year or longer now - why he developed this I dont know - hes always had good lighting never any colored bulbs etc -- I even contacted the breeder and she had no idea as to why this has happened - so I am taking the best care of him as possible - he still has his basking decor but does not climb on the mainly sits on the floor of his tank but does navigate his tank - I had to lower his UVB directly above him so its 13 inches from the bulb to him / floor - I would feed on the left side of him -- is he eating his salads?

He has always been my little climber, and he hasn't stopped with his eye being like it is now. The first few weeks he would sit in one spot, but here recently he has been more active and climbing a lot like he used to.

He does eat his salads. Not like he used to though, so I "trick him" by putting bugs in his salad and he ends up eating both 😂

Are your bulbs straight over head? Beardies have a tendency to look at the lights, if they are angled it could be hurting his eyes.

The screen is it a fine mesh like a screen door or a wide hole type- the screen will block 30% of the rays
They are more open holes. His habitat now is a critter cage that I have purposed and made his home for the time being. But his eye started acting up before the change to his habitat now. His habitat originally since I had gotten him was a 40 gallon top opening reptile tank.

Ok so please make sure your UVB is directly over a piece of basking decor 8-10 inches -- I would have the eye examined again -- the vet your going to is a reptile vet? Some of these reptile vets are not very good -- I can post a website for a reptile vet in your area or close to you

I can do that. And yes, his vet is a reptile vet. The place I take him to has 3 exotic animal vets on staff.

Ok have them check for cataracts -- or abnormality of the eye like what they did w/ Blaze - she caught the cornea not being round but oval - its weird that he developed this -- he has also had a liver infection in the past that was treated --

Hello,

Poor guy, so he is having trouble with both eyes?
Are they infected at all, or not?
There have been a lot of cases where dragons have developed cataracts for unknown reasons. I am hoping that in the future there will be ways to remove them on reptiles.
Can he see out of the other eye?

Yes he can see out of his left eye luckily. The right one is the one that I think he can't see out of. I am very lucky that the one eye seems to work, and I hope it stays that way.
And his eyes have never been infected, just one day he decided that his eye was hurt in some way and started to keep it closed. He will open it on occasion, but I don't think he really registers anything.
My boyfriend keeps telling me that he will adapt if this is the case, and Sherlock has perked up back to himself since this has happened, but I have questions still.
Do you know if he lost his vision in one eye if he could loose the other?

That light looks like a ZooMed. If so take out your cellphone and turn the camera on and watch the light through the camera. I'll post a link to my thread on those fixtures. I had 4 that went bad within days of getting them. I caught it by accident trying to get a video of Snickers behavior. At that same time Zen was keeping an eye closed. Within a few days of replacing those fixtures both went back to normal.
Take a look at the video, I could not see that with the naked eye. Beardies have more rods and cones in their eyes than we do, they can see spectrums of light we can't. That light was quite literally driving Snickers insane.

Wow! I will definitely take a video of his light and see if that is the issue! I never knew that could happen! Thank you!
