Our beardie is showing all the signs of going into brumations (going into his hide most of the day, trying to sleep, going to bed early, etc). I think it's probably brumation, but he's only 6 and a half to 7 months old. Is brumation a likely explanation at his age, or is there something else to consider? A couple of months ago we took him in and they found some parasites that we treated for, and after his treatment, he's showed no signs of any kind of relapse except this constant sleeping, which just started on and off about a week and a half ago.
In addition to the above, this morning he suddenly has a black spot on the right of his beard and the scales around it are very loose. A photo is added below. Could someone please let me know if this is an issue or if this is normal? Please?
Did you have him rechecked for parasites after his treatment? Sometimes it take more then one round to get them all, I would have him checked again. He is a little young for brumation but what concerns me is its the wrong time of year, I don't think it brumation you are dealing with.
The black spot isn't normal, it should also be looked at to rule out infection or fungus.
We think the black spot may actually be from rubbing his face against his rocks too much. He hasn't shed in two months and he's definitely a growing boy. Not sure why though; he gets lots of baths and his temps and diets are all good.
