Gretchen's vet called earlier and she has Coccidia. I'm going to see her tomorriw to find out more info and get her meds.
I had some info about what to do from CooperDragon (he's been such an amazing help with all my posts) as all of you.
I'm looking for tips on how to handle this.
1-I still have her old small 20 gal tank so should I relocate her into that while i heavily daily clean her current home? Obviously disinfect thatbefore I put her in there. And also I have no way of getting her lights closer to her without her basking platform so I think her small tank will do.
2-Best product to kill the parasites. Ammonia I was told diluted with water I assume.
3-Her wood elevated basking spot. It's plywood. Should I throw it out and make a new one?
4-Half log hide. Bake it? Throw it out?
God. I've read so much and want to cry lol
Thanks
Krista
Hi Krysta, lots of dragons get coccidia + do just fine. How is her appetite + activity level ? How bad is the coccidia , do you know the count ? Most dragons have a certain level of parasites and do not even need to be treated if the levels are low.
What med. will be used ? If the vet says Albon, you might want to reconsider because it's very harsh. Most owners are using toltrazuril [ baycox ] now and it usuaslly works in just 2-3 doses compared to the longer course of Albon. If your vet doesn't carry it you can get it here.
Don't get carried away with cleaning. Just do a good job, keep her in her usual tank and bake her basking logs + other items for 15 minutes in a preheated 250 oven. Don't make the mistake of treating her for a long time or over + over, that can do more harm than good in many cases, more harm than a small amount of coccidia.

Hey thanks for getting back to me. I'm going to the vet tonight after work to get her meds so I'll find out more info later. She said it was a moderate infection. She may have told me more info buy when I heard coccidia my brain shut off lol.
So I was thinking of putting everything in the tub with boiling water and something to clean/disinfect with (not sure what's best to use however). Her basking spot wood plank I'll bake and her rock I'll soak also. Or should I bake that? Her wood log has some little steps made out of rope and hot glue/velcro stickers so not sure I can bake that. Might just throw that out.
As for her tiles and other things inside her viv they will also get a bath.
Think I slept 4 hours last night lol the internet makes everything seem so much more than it is sometimes.

****forgot to add that she is still eating a good amount of crickets. Hasnt touched her greens in a few days. She moved around her Viv but recently been extra lazy and hangs on her cool side on the hammock
Yes, I agree that you should throw out the rope ladder. The rock probably should be soaked , and just keep 2 basking perches [ logs ] one for when the other is being baked. I use red wine vinegar for disinfecting anything....it's used in some 3rd world countries as a disinfectant to fight cholera. Most others on the forums recommend ammonia or an F-10 cleaner, they don't go along with my recommendation of RWV.
I wouldn't use tile now, just wads of folded newspaper that can be lifted out + thrown away every day. And please call + ask what med. your vet is prescribing....Albon is the old + harsh way, toltrazuril is being used more now.

Yes, Albon is a sulfa drug, they are in the same " family". Sulfa drugs are harsh....I wouldn't use it. Like I said, the new + easy for your dragon med. is Toltrazuril. There are a LOT of members here who have used it, some actually used it after the sulfa drugs did not work. You can choose for yourself but I'd go with the toltrazuril. You can use a probiotic as well.

Hi AHBD. So I cleaned and sanitized her entire tank last night. Baked her wood platform along with her log hide. Soaked and cleaned all tiles and cement blocks and her rock. Put the bare minimum back in today along with her. Using doggy pee pads for now to civer all surfaces. I tried to get her lights in lower so I wouldn't have to use her perch but I just couldn't. So perch had to go up. Should I take out her rock and just leave the pee pad? I tried to figure out what to use but I had nothing at home. She's eating her crickets and every now and then takes a bite or two of salad. Meds seem to be working. She has a bit more energy I find. As for daily cleaning. I'll change thebpas and wipe down her tank. Does this seem like enough??
Hey friend lol ? that's what I've been doing. It's soaking now. Ill keep doing that until she's cleared up I'm changing her pee pads anyways every 2 days. And then I'll do it just not every other day like now. Almost there lol.
