I've seen a lot of posts about using plexi glass as front for sliding doors and such but I was wondering if there is any reason people don't use screens? Like window or patio screens for the front of the terrarium. I am planning to build my own enclosure in a few weeks and I would like to make two wooden frames that open like cabinet doors w/aluminium screening.
Maybe one of the reasons people don't use it is because it's to much ventilation? I know of only person that's done this type of setup, blood bank dragons.
To use screening in your viv, you would have to use framed doors, which can be kind of a pain. It could be done though, assuming that you don't have issues with too much escaping heat. The only thing to really be concerned with is what kind of screen you use. Using regular window screen wouldn't work because it's too weak. You'd want to use hardware cloth, probably 1/2in. It would also have to be either coated or galvanized at a minimum. Some places you can find the powder-coated varieties, which is the best, but also expensive. The galvanized is cheapest, but you'll get some oxidation on it over time.
