Hello I just got a baby bearded dragon yesterday and then I went to get him lighting at petland. Today my bearded dragon was fine and everything but then later on in the evening he started to close one eye. And he's been closing his eyes quite a bit. Could it be because the UVB bulb she gave me was a compact reptiglo? After further research, I've seen a lot of things on how compact bulbs and reptiglo bulbs in general are no good. I am planning to go buy new lights for him. Specifically the reptisun 10.0 fluorescent tube asap!! I also wanted to ask about Phoenix worms/reptiworms. I have heard that they could be used as a staple for bearded dragons? Is this true? Thank you I appreciate the help!

The T8 10.0 will do as long as your dragon can get within 6" to 8" of it from his basking spot. No screen, no glass or plastic between it and your dragon with the T8. It is not as strong as the T5 10.0 HO which the effective range is much farther 12" to 18".
I also wanted to ask about Phoenix worms/reptiworms. I have heard that they could be used as a staple for bearded dragons? Is this true? Yes, those are very good feeders no dusting needed because they are high in calcium.
Thank you I appreciate the help!

Hey, I'm a new baby dragon owner too and I heavily researched the UV lighting. I came across a great article that testing the Reptisun and some of the other common uv bulbs on the market, alongside the Arcadia uv bulb. Without getting into too much detail, the Arcadia bulbs won hands down and are considered the absolutely best UV light on the market. For a bearded dragon, you'd want the Arcadia 12%. The other bulbs actually emitted a bad form of UV, off the top of my head, I believe it's a UVC, that is harmful to dragons. The Arcadia did not, and it also emits a higher percentage and better quality UVA and UVB. It's almost impossible to get in Canada, but after lots of search I found it! If you're interested, you can get it at Chaotic Exotics in Alberta. That's who I ordered from, super helpful and friendly shop! He doesn't have an online shop, but if you call them, they will ship to you. I also found them at reptilesrus.ca. Oh and for the ballast, I used the Sun Blaster, which Chaotic Exotics also carries. Hope this helps

That's good advice and I agree with it. I think the UVC issue has been resolved in recent years now but some bulbs are certainly better than others. I like the Arcadia and ReptiSun brands the best at the moment. It's also good to have a Canadian source for the Arcadia bulbs and Sunblaster fixtures. That's an excellent combination.
