Hey I’ve just gotten a new beardy named Jerry, he is around 2 years old and 20-22 inches my friend could no longer take care of him no more and I decided to adopt him because I have and had other dragons before it’s been 2 days since we gotten him and yesterday I noticed that he actually have the worse mouth rot ever some. details about it is that it is horrifying black and I’ve had to pry out his mouth just to feed him. He has not ate on his own and he is very lethargic. his previous owner gave him a poor diet includes just super worms and greens as of now I am trying to fatten him up with a bunch of Dubais but this guy just would not eat. My 11 month old dragon (jackie) is a lot more energetic and healthy. I don’t know if I should breed these two together at one point but I am trying to make them chill with each other around.

Jerry’s teeth are in horrible conditions and I’ve called around 9 vets to ask what should I do, I am going to book an appointment but the deposit fee and appointment fee is around 75-190 bucks alone and that’s just for looking at him. I don’t know how much the medication or sugary is going to be and I am just a high school student who is trying to give this guy a better life.if anyone can look at this guy and help out With suggestions that would be awesome thank you (what I am doing as of right now is prying his mouth open and cleaning it with cotton swabs every day)

The black buildup around his teeth doesn't look good, but from what I can see, the rest of his mouth looks like it's in good shape. A vet may be able to remove infected tissue with surgery and then provide some antibiotics which will probably help in the long run. It may be causing discomfort which could be why he isn't eating. What you might try to do is run a wetq-tip over the black area to see if it is just buildup that will come loose. Be gentile with it though. If it comes loose onto the q-tip then it could just be buildup that you can remove over time. My vet usually recommends using maxiguard gel as an oral antiseptic. Diluted betadine should work too if you can't get the maxiguard. If the buildup doesn't come loose, then the best thing is to have an experienced vet work on removing it and then disinfecting the tissue so it will heal properly.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
