Hello,

Just checking on how he is doing!
I agree, limit his activity & climbing if you can that will help a lot.
The Reptisun 10 T5 tube is perfect. Usually 10 or so inches is where we recomend, but 9 should be
ok.
I hope he starts feeling better soon! Reptiles heal slowly so you will have to give him some time. Keep
us updated on his progress.

Hi Tracie,

Thank you for your response, I would love to know if you are in agreement that the x ray shows a break? He has an increasingly swollen toe on that foot that is definitely painful, you can see the swelling of the toe as well on the x rays but the bone looks normal (or at least was told it did by vet) and to my untrained eye. I have attached a picture of the leg and toe swelling taken this morning.

Hello,

I don't see a break, but do see displacement in the area. Some type of trauma is going on there, but not
sure it is from a break because there really isn't any line or fracture that I see. In comparison, the bones
from one leg to another do look different.
Sometimes if trauma causes fluid build up, it could displace the bone placement to some extent causing
the swelling. However, the swelling of the toe is very suspect for gout.
Is there any way you can get or request a copy of the blood test. I would love to see the values. When
gout occurs, it isn't always uniform, meaning, sometimes swelling just happens on one side of the body &
not the other.
We do need to get this figured out for him before it escalates out of control.

Hello,

Thanks for posting the blood test. The uric acid levels & AST levels are actually normal so that is good.
The calcium levels are normal as well.
The white blood cell counts don't indicate any infection or toxicity.
How is he doing today? The toe swelling could be from trauma which is just a symptom of injury. Has
there been anymore changes on any of the digits, etc of swelling?

The swelling in his "hip" area and toe are still very pronounced, and when he is moving around the hip joint does not move at all making a very obvious limp. It's truly heartbreaking to watch.

With all bloodwork normal but no improvement should I start him on allopurinol/black cherry extract and any diet modifications I have read about in case this is gout or could that cause him harm without evidence of any uric acid build up?

Hello,

Gout can be elusive & sometimes hard to determine. Starting him on Allopurinol as a precaution would
not hurt him, no. If it isn't gout then it will simply help out with uric acid production for awhile.
At the very least, starting him on Black or tart cherry juice extract would be helpful & healthy for the kidneys.
How is he doing? Any improvements at all? We definitely need to get him going in the right direction!
Will the vet prescribe the Allopurinol? If not, let me know.

Hi Tracie,

The vet has gone in a different direction after speaking to some exotic specialists on a case study basis she posted all his results and images of him on. They started him on antibiotic injections yesterday, once every 3 days for 30 days of ceftazadime. The thought of a few of them is a localized infection to explain the rapid swelling of leg (although nothing showed in his blood work)

I am at a loss as to what to think and just want something to help the poor baby so I went along with it and he was given the first injection yesterday afternoon and I have 9 more syringes in my freezer.

If there are no side effects/interactions I would like to cover all bases and at least do the cherry juice as well. Could you please point me in the right direction as to where I could find the right one for him? I live in Canada.

Would love any advice on diet changes that could help as well? I have been reading about switching to BSFL as a staple rather than crickets and discord roaches? Or is there an amount of insects I should aim for? He has gotten a bit of his appetite back but I have been pushing salads like crazy currently and limiting his bugs and unsure if this is helpful or hurtful at this point.

Hello,

Oh ok, well, the Ceftz is very effective. There definitely wasn't any indication of infection on the blood test but there is always the possibility of infection based on the speed of the swelling. Let me know how things go with the antibiotic injections, I hope that it works.
I hope he continues to eat his salads. You can keep his insects around
25 to 30 insects weekly if he maintains his weight off of that amount.
You should be able to find some Black or Tart cherry juice at your local grocery store or maybe a health food store. If not, amazon should have it & they do ship to Canada.
Let us know how he is doing.
