So, Dregan is 10 months old now and I switched from carpet to sand colored slate tile a few days ago in the enclosure. We thought we had a boy based on what the vet said months ago (at 5 mo old) but we're pretty sure now based on the pictures that he's a she. I guess we'll just lengthen her name to Dreganna and just call her Dre like we've done all along. With this new tile flooring, she is scratching it with both her right arm and right leg repeatedly. At what age would she carry eggs for the first time? Dre is our first BD and first reptile too, so I'm clueless and concerned about lay boxes and such. She's gotten a bit larger in girth too w/o eating any more than normal. I don't feel anything in her tummy though, it's nice and soft. I haven't been weighing at all so I think I'll buy a scale and start charting growth. She's around 15 inches in length now.
I think the scratching may just be her checking out her new tile, at least, that's what I'm hoping for. Any suggestions?
She's still a bit young for egg laying... the youngest I've ever heard of that happening is 18 months old, but more often it won't happen until they're full grown around 24 months. Some female dragons never lay eggs (hope for this, they're healthier that way). Some dragons all of the sudden start laying eggs later in life. Some only ever lay one clutch in their lives and some will lay a few times every year.
Either way, I think your dragon was just checking things out like you said. One of my adult females scratches at the glass when she wants to come out lol. She also scratches at the front door when she wants to go outside, and she'll even go in the bathroom and scratch at the tub when she wants a soak hehe
