I'm going on a day trip to a lake for a bbq and would hate to leave my charlie home alone all day while we have fun in the sun!! I want to take him with me but i dont want to spend all day with him on my shoulder... anyone has any ideas of a sort of playpen where i could put him to bask while im not watching him?? any ideas would be helpful!!
never actually heard of a beardie play pen... the only thing i can think of is that you need to make something that lifts off the ground with four walls... and i would make a screen top... im actually looking into maybe making one... with my boyfriends assistance of course. lol just make sure it has a top!!!! lol im not too handy myself...
Lol, what a wonderful slave you are! You could always get a collapsible wire dog kennel. But I would definitely make sure whatever you get is fully enclosed as beardies can climb screens and what-not, and it would be awful if your beardie got loose. I would also cover one end with a towel, so if it gets too hot he can hide in the cool end. I've been watching craigslist to get one myself as an outdoor beardie basking pen, because they are kind of pricey. Just a thought.
I thought about getting a real playpen.... buuut people will think im crazy for sure!!! considering i dont have kids... hahaha i'm going to browse around and see what I find.. i did look at the dog's kennels but they are too tall and not wide enough... i want him to be able to move around... what i really want is a kind of fence or something...
LOL I thought the same thing when I put the play pen outside...
ALSO, my husband put some green removable fencing outback that was PERFECT! It is like the temporary fencing that construction companies use. I never had a problem with it, except when I heard birds. I knew that birds could see her since it had no covering. She loved it. Gave her room to run around in.
You can get it pretty cheap at Home Depot/home improvement store. I put it up when I want, and take it down when we are done. I made sure to rake the area really well so she couldn't eat anything she wasn't supposed to!
I bought six pieces of 16" wide melamine shelving three feet long, and six 4" "loose hinge" leaf hinges.
Standing a piece of shelving up on edge, I mounted half a hinge on each upper corner, the "male side" on one end, the "female side" on the other.
I can stand the pieces on edge and end-to-end, then drop a hinge pin in to join them and make a solid-walled movable playpen.
I can use as few as three boards to form a triangular area, four for a square, five or all six, and the actual shape is somewhat flexible. That, combined with a painter's dropcloth, I can put the lizards anyplace in the house without risk to lizard or floor coverings.
I've been using three pieces to form a "U" up against the sliding glass door, and can use the other three to make a second "U" so both BDs can be against the glass without being together or needing supervision.
When I'm not using it, I can pull all the hinge pins and stack the shelving into a 6" thick stack that slides under the futon.
I use a kids play pool for my beardies- it has taller sides than the walmart kind. Then I prop an umbrella up over one edge for some shade if they want. I put some water in the bottom and some rocks in the center for basking out of the water. They LOVe it-
I recently saw someone posted a link to a really cool mesh pop up tent to cover small plants in the garden and protect them from bugs and other pests. they were using this to cover the pool for the dragons. I couldn't find the link just now but its on here somewhere.... :?
I use a portable baby playpen. It works great and it folds for storage and is super easy to steam clean. It also has wheels so I can move it close to me when I am working outside. I bought it 4 years ago and spent about $39.00 or so on it. It's the best investment I have purchased for my beardies.
