Hello, I recently have been debating putting live plants in my adult beardies tank! He hasn't had very good life with past owners and I was to give him the best home for the rest of his life. Therefore I wanted to add a small shallow tray to plant some plants. I was thinking making a little air plant collage on his wall but I don't know if they are poisonous or not. Aside from the air plants are there any other plants I could put in there? Maybe even some he could snack on?
As live plants can raise the humidity too high, sturdy fake plants can act as an alternative. Your dragon will be just as happy with rocks and wood to climb on.
I don't know about air plants but a mix of greens and lettuces can be sprouted in trays and the trays swapped in and out. Sprouts with a couple true leaves make a good forage area. Larger plants get trampled and trashed and end up looking badly.
Are there any dangerous herbs or greens? I would prefer to ask on here then to look it up because I would rather be talking to someone who has lots of experience, and don't get me wrong there are many good websites. Just some of them are not. Better safe than sorry
Herbs and aromatics I would avoid in the the enclosure incase they are irritants. I've grown salad greens (kale, collars, mustard etc) and a lettuce mix. All quite safe. Also Pepper loves nasturtiums which you might grow in pots. Pea shoots are easy. Squash leaves and flowers are edible but the plants are huge.
If it have enough ventilation plants don't really raise humidity that much. You can remove them for watering also.
