I came to this site many times in March and April to get help for my bearded dragon. He had a pinworm and coccidia infestation when we first got him. I re-tested his stool last week and he still has pinworms 3+. They want to treat him
with fenbendazol (pancur) this time. They want him to get the medication once a day for 5 days and then repeat again in
1 month. Does this sound right? He sleeps all the time and only wakes up when I bathe and feed him and then basks for a bit
and then goes right back to sleep until I bathe him again. I am not sure of the best course of action to take for him. Any advice would be helpful .
When I treat for pinworms, I do it once a week for 3-4 weeks. Pinworms have a life cycle and treating once a week for a few weeks has really worked for me. He will need a probiotic to replace the gut flora. He could be sleeping because he has a tummy ache due to the lack of good gut flora. Get him some benebac or soy yogurt.
Aww, that sucks. When Budo came to me, he had coccidia and pins, too, but not nearly as many pins as he did coccidia. It's a real headache. Those darn worms want to stick around!
He was on Panacur every week for a month, but dosages are different for beardies of different weights. I haven't gotten his final fecal check back, but I could always get him to eat after he'd had his Panacur. As for the dosages, it depends on weight. But if you trust your vet and your vet says for five days every month, I'd go with that.
