Our beardie is about 11 months old. I noticed it was starting to act different, thought it was brumation. Finally took it to the vet. It is 12 m long, 249 grams, has t types of parasite 4.0 (on the scale), it was constipated, and I also noticed on the receipt, they dewormed her. They also put her on Septra. She is really not eating much. Before illness, she was eating 45 crickets a day, I can barely get her to eat 5 a day now, and wont' eat veggies at all. I tried to find some acidolpilus (none in Houston????) so I am open for suggestions. I'm assuming eating is the biggest issue at this point?

Hello,

The meds, especially sulfa based ones such as Septra, Albon, etc, are very hard on their systems & normally cause them to lose their appetite due to changing the ph in the tummy & giving them stomach distress. Acidophiliz can be ordered from http://www.reptilesupply.com
There is another probiotic called benebac that you could find at the petstore in the cat or bird section sometimes, or you can get that from http://www.reptilesupply.com
Or there is another one called nutribac which you can buy from http://www.reptileuv.com

They will greatly help your dragon while she is on meds.
Make sure that you give him extra oral fluids daily too, while she is on meds as well.
Your dragon is how long, 12 m? Millimeters?? Inches??

sorry, 12 millimeters....How do you suggest getting this little critter extra fluids? Bath? Just trying to get her to take this antibiotic is a major struggle every day. She did eat a few more crickets today and pooped....so I'm feeling a little better. So she has been on meds for 4 days, you don't think it's too late to order some acid.? Thanks for answering...Renae

Ok, I'm still worried and would like a reply about the acidopilus and and getting extra fluids in the critter. I did give her a bath today and she pooped while in the water. Is there a certain number of poops per day or per week that I need to be looking at? She still isn't really eating much for veggies. I think she ate about 8 crickets yesterday....compared to the 30-40 she was eating when she was well really concerns me. Is she just going to stay in this lack of eating mode until the medicine is gone and the stomach is back to normal? I at what point she needs to go back to the vet?

Hello,

The acidophiliz should be used in conjunction with medication rounds to help ensure his GI tract stays balanced. You can get it from:
http://www.reptilesupply.com

You can use a plastic dropper to get some oral fluids into him daily. They don't eat tons of greens when they young just keep trying to offer her some every day & eventually she will accept it as food.
Usually they go to the bathroom 1-2 times as youngsters & alot less as adults.
The medication tends to slow them down quite a bit on their eating, but the probiotics really help.

ok, it has been a week since we were at the vet. He had two days that he ate crickets and other then that, he will not eat. I got some benebac (?) and mixed it with some baby chicken food and have been forcing him to eat it..he is not happy about that to say the least. I am giving him baths at least once/day. I feel like I'm watching this one die....I just don't know what else to do.

I'm sorry your beardie is having such a time of it. Could you fill us in on the UVB light you're using by giving the brand name and % of output & if it's a coil, compact, strip fluorescent or mercury vapor bulb?

What are the basking & cool side temps and what type of thermometer are you using.

If you could get a product called Repti-Aid that should help him improve. http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=1062 You could mix it with squash babyfood with a little bit of chicken. How many days of antibiotics does he have to go yet?

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
