So i went to PetCo to day to get some lower watt basking lights because it is getting warm here and there tanks were to hot. I get there and see that they now have bearded dragons for sale, so I take a peek. The dragons that they are selling can not be any more than a week old . they had maybe 20 beardies in a twenty long aquarium, no basking light, no uvb, and feeding meal worms that were close to the size of the beardies. And to top it off there was a beautiful little yellow guy laying dead in the middle of the tank (I let the manager have it). So I asked the manager about this and she told me she got the order from SandFire Ranch and they came in yesterday, she also said that they were withing regulations for petco as to what they can sell 4 INCHES 2 GRAMS . So I called Robert at SandFire Ranch and asked him about it and he told me that they have not shipped ANY dragons to PetCo or any one else for that matter and he took the PetCo address and was going to call and rip a$$ for blaming him for their misgivings
I spoke to the a person in charge of reptiles at my local Petco and the company (Petco) as a whole purchases exclusively from Sandfire Dragon Ranch. I guess I'd deny it too if I was that irresponsible.
breeders such as this are what i classify as puppy farms of the bearded dragon world they make me sick and do not deserve to be able to do what they do.
on top of being sold too young, it is hard for a experienced breeder to take care of dragons those first few weeks let alone someone who only has knowledge on care for a place like petco.
Couldnt have said it better myself. There is a level of respect and decency that SHOULD go hand in hand when taking on the responsibility of breeding any animals but unfortunately that just isnt always the case.Very sad and unfortunately very true
The saddest part of all of it is these dragons are all very beautiful and more than half will most likely die in that little tank before the end of next week, that is how bad they looked. The biggest part of all of them was the head and none of them were bigger than my pinky and i have very small fingers.
It seems there is a rash of post latly about buying or seeing VERY young dragons out there for sale.
I dont sell mine till they are about 6 to 8 weeks old, and sometimes not even then depending on the growthrate of the individual. I guess that why I will never be wealthy in my hobby. I care about my critters.
I will agree with all of that, Sandfire Ranch does supply petco. I have had a number of friends & acquaintances get theirs from Petco saying that they are from Sandfire Ranch.
That is so sad, they were shipped WAY too young, & Kevin Dunne & Robert ought to be ashamed of themselves running their business in this manner. If they don't give much thought to shipping babies out that are that small to a petstore, then they don't need to be breeding. It bothers me because most, if not all will not make it. So, ultimately, it is Sandfire's responsibility.
