Hi everyone. I'm about to place my first order for feeder insects online. Wish me luck! It's cold where I am and I'm taking a gamble. I had a question for those who order their insects but don't breed them. How do you store them?! I'm for sure ordering Phoenix worms and Dubias. I know you just leave the Phoenix worms in their cup but what about the Dubias?
Eventually, I'd like to breed some insects but I'd like to see if my beardie will actually eat them before I make an investment. Also, my mother is kind of scared of cockroaches because of the Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches her mum had growing up that escaped and got in her bed  I'll have to get her more comfortable being around them.
Also, any good websites to check out for feeder insects?
Awesome! Thanks Do you get Dubias? If so, do you breed the Dubias or do you just order and feed them? I'm trying to figure out how the heck I'm going store them haha
How many dubia are you planning to get? A large critter keeper would do fine for quite a few and keep them securely. It's well ventalated too, I keep my feeders in one in my living room with egg crate or toilet paper tubes, no extra heat and they do fine. If you use a tote make sure to have enough ventilation or it will get too damp and kill the roaches.
You can keep the solder fly larvae cool (wine fridge or makeshift cooler) to extend their larval stage. Other good bugs since you are ordering online are silkworms and hornworms. These all have relatively short "shelf life" depending on your dragons size. Silks and hornworms can grow very quickly. Butterworms are pretty good treats (high in fat tho so offer sparingly) and keep well in the refidgerator to have on hand.
I ordered my dubia from abdragons (they have listings here and on eBay) and I've tried Linda's but my order got really confused. I wouldn't do a special combo from them again, but any of the listings as is I'm sure would be fine.
