Well scorch has pinworms again. The doctor gave me panacure to give her for four days, then four days in another two weeks.
SO, I'm sitting her holding her up and trying to pry open her mouth so she will take the medicine... and I'm wondering if I'm even doing this right. I feel like I'm hurting her :\ She hisses everytime I get her mouth open a little bit, but I haven't been able to get the syringe in all the way yet.
I open her lips with my fingers and get the tip of the syringe in against her teeth, then try to lift her top teeth with the syringe (since she has sort of like an overbite, lol) and I get as far as pushing against her tongue then she hisses and moves her head and I have to start all over again :\
I had really good luck with opening the side of the lips with the tip of the syringe and rubbing it back and forth along the teeth. This worked EVERY time... Lickety would open his mouth without fail, sometimes it took a bit more rubbing than others but never much. As soon as he opens his mouth slide the syringe in just far enough to dispense the medicine. I hope this helps! I also gave Lickety his soy yogurt this way and he loves that so he never really developed a bad association with the syringe. Good Luck!
Oh wow thanks, that worked like a charm! I got WAY less hisses and scratches using your method
Though sadly, since scorch has only experienced medicine and head thrashing after a syringe, she prolly will never learn to be ok with it
