Hi guys, its been a bit since I posted but I read all the time Im the proud Mommy of 2 baby beardies.
My problem is... is when we bought Louie he had a slight tail nip. My husband said he had character lol. All has been well with it for the longest time. Im guesstimating that he is 6 to 7 months old and has shed several times with no problem. The last few sheds however have become more and more difficult around the nip. I have to help it along most times. It is to the point now that there is obvious build up of skin that I cant get to come off and he acts like it either hurts him for me to touch it or peturbs him.
Here is a pic... if anyone could tell me if they have delt with this before... how bad it is and where do I go from here.
If he has retained shed, you need to get him a vet appt, sooner rather than later. The skin can constrict bloodflow and cause infections which are very painful, but can also get into their bloodstream and kill them. It is important that it is taken care of quickly (most likely will require amputation of the affected part) so that he does not suffer or lose more of his tail than he needs to. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear .
Tyvm for the reply. No it isnt what I wanted to hear but at least I know what needs to be done. He has had this nip since he was a tiny baby in the store, but never caused him any trouble
I will call the vet in the morn and see about getting him an appt. Thx again.
Definitely try the aloe first, but if you see the tail start to turn blacker or spread at all, it is time to go to the vet immediately. If your vet is hard to get an appt with, you may want to make one now that you can cancel later (some reptile vets take WEEKS).
Ah! I followed your guys advice about the aloe, I used it about a week while giving them their normal baths. Luckily my beardies are like 5 year olds in the tub. They love to soak and play.
During his bath tonight... the retained shed came right off..in one piece!
