Old and sick

Hi guys!
I’m new to this website - I have around a 7-9 year old beardie, he is called steve and i took him off of my brother around 2 years ago due to neglect. I had been taking quite good care of him and thought about upgrading his tank soon.

Over the past few weeks, his health has declined. he is extremely pale with a constant black beard. he is usually very friendly and loves to cuddle and sleep on me however whenever he is awake (which is not a lot anymore) he opens his mouth as in going to bite me, which he cannot do as he is too weak. his eyes have sunken in so i have tried to give him baths to rehydrate. He will not eat anything at all and he spends about half an hour a day awake with very little movement.

If somebody could give me some tips that would be really appreciated, worried for my little guy!

Poor Steve is very sick. There's no way to know what it is but it's life threatening. They can suffer from liver, kidney, heart failure like we do and sadly gastric neuroendocrine cancer which is pretty much always fatal. A vet might be able to do bloodwork and other diagnostics but if you do that be prepared for bad news. I'm very sorry, it's so sad when they suffer.
If there's anything at all that was out of the ordinary for him try to think of it. Like if he fell from a great height, ate something off the floor, etc. Pictures of his enclosure if you can post any.

He looks just like my 10 year old who just passed like 3 weeks ago. It may not be your case but in mine it was liver failure. My heart goes out to you and him.

Hello,

So sorry Steve is not doing well. He is possibly having liver or kidney trouble which are very common.
Since he is very dehydrated, try to get a plastic dropper or syringe to drip water onto the end of his nose
if at all possible. Pedialyte diluted or an apple or grape juice diluted can help with a few calories.
When was the last time he has eaten?
Let us know how he is doing.

i’ll try this! the last time he ate was probably around 3 weeks ago now, i’ve tried all sorts with him but he’s not interested at all and turns away and goes to sleep instead

Update on Steve:

been working really hard with him! i’ve been trying to feed him through a syringe but he just doesn’t want to swallow it. i keep letting him rest in water to try and rehydrate him - the only thing that has really gone up is that he is now awake a bit more, i’m not sure if thats just because i have him out. really proud of him though, didn’t think he would make it through the night but he did and i’m super happy with that - he’s definitely hanging on!

Hello,

Ok, well that is promising. If you can get him hydrated to where his eyes & the bridge over his eyes starts
to look better he might become more alert. Will he not take anything off of his nose, if you drop food/slurry
from a dropper? Just mix up chicken or turkey baby food mixed with sweet potato or squash baby food.
Let us know how Steve is doing.
