Hello! I have a juvenile bearded dragon (~7 mo) who joined our family about a month ago. He’s eating his protein really well but not so much his greens, which I’ve been shredding and mixing together and offering in the mornings. When taking him out in our garden this week I noticed he was interested in/licking/experimentally chomping on some of the whole leaves out there. As an experiment I stuck a whole dandelion green leaf in his terrarium and when I came back to check later it was gone, apparently devoured. I know the rule about only offering insects/solid veggie pieces that are no bigger than the space between his eyes. Is it okay to offer his leafy greens in larger/more whole leaf form? Or is there also danger of impaction from leafy greens? Thanks!
Dandelion greens are a staple and that is great he ate it! Just make sure there are no pesticides on those greens --- here is a website for nutrition ignore the kale thing its a good staple feeder http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html I would mix those dandelion greens up w/ other greens like turnip collard etc -- no he can eat the leaves you can tear them but hes got teeth so he shouldnt have any issues - you dont need to shred the other greens either -- shredded sweet potato and butternut squash is recommended

Awesome, thanks for the reply! I’ve been trying a variety of different greens each week but haven’t tried turnip greens yet. So far he will deign to eat dandelion greens, sweet potato, squash, and bell pepper. I’ve also tried a couple tiny pieces of carrot, strawberry, and blueberry which he ate right up but I know those are too high in sugar and water to offer more than occasionally.
I’ll try offering larger leafs of some other greens and see if that piques his interest, too!
