Can someone help me? My beardie has not basked in a while and its making me worried. He just sits under his UVB all day and like never does anything else. He looks so sad and IDK what to do. He also will not eat his veggies and doesn't seem as excited for bugs as he usually is. He still eats them he just doesn't freak out over them anymore

How are his poops? (Usual? Not excessively stinky..like drive you out of the room stinky?) What brand of uvb are you using? Can you get a temp of your basking surface with the probe you have? Also a temp of the surface he likes to hang out on? Just trying to rule out a couple things here. Please post the temps of those things when you get them ok? He looks really good from the pics.

Please go over the surface basking temps they should be 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer - especially if the hammock is the basking area- probes are more accurate for temps- are you using a clear solid white basking bulb? Brand please-- what are you using for a UVB brand and bulb and what is the placement of this light? Not eating is going to be normal if he is not basking - the basking is what starts digestion and w/ him not basking hes going to eat less - we will start w/ what I have asked and go from there

I just left my home, but I will reply with all of that information when I get home. I would give an estimate of his basking spot to be in the high 90s sometimes reaching 100s he hasn't pooped in like a week which is also kinda worrying me, but I just started kinda massaging his stomach a little. I would assume on the side that his hammock is on is like low 80s? This is the UVB that I use...

Ok good uvb where is it in the tank? Don't fret about the poop mine don't poop for 3 weeks at times- what about the basking bulb your using?

They dont bask all day, just until they get up to their optimal temp, and then they go off and rest in the spot they prefer. If he is sitting under the uvb, thats good..he is getting his his uvb. Your uvb tube is a good one. Most important that he himself gets up to temp (at least 95-98) to digest. If you are providing the correct uvb and temps at his basking spot, its up to him how and when he wants to use it. Sometimes the basking surface gets too warm for his preference (102, 110, whatever it may be, causing him to avoid it for long periods of time).

It says on the box that this is a colored lamp...that may be your problem. You need a clear bright white bulb for him, a zoomed reptl basking spot bulb or a flukers bright white bulb, for instance. Thrive is not really an optimal brand, and you definitely dont want a colored bulb of any sort. Hope that helps!

You can get Flukers basking bulb off of Walmart.com you will need to do a search and you can get them also from Chewy.com- the placement of the UVB is crucial - placement and distance is determined by the screen

Hi there, can you get him out to explore in a safe area and get some exercise ? It loks like he''s well loved and over fed. Overweight beardies will always be more sluggish. Restrict his insect feedings to once a week, just 4-5 medium insects and let him roam for exercise.
If you do let him out, check thoroughly that there are no random objects like coins, rubber bsands , marbles, small toys because beardies often try to eat them.

He roams my room often, I feed him bugs 3 times a week because he was pretty obese when I got him. This is him slimmed down a little lol.

It's good that you've helped him slim down then, they can easily develop liver problems from over eating and carrying a lot of fat. It also affects every aspect of their life such as their joints becoming painful, deveoping gout, kidney issues , etc. So keep up the good work and cut the insects down, it seems that he is going off the insects himself a bit from what you said.
