Hey guys
so my big girl recently started shedding & she was eating great at the beginning of her shed.
Now she didn't eat today but I'm guessing that's normal because she's shedding.
What about the basking part?
will shedding affect her basking
because she will bask just not as much as she used to.
basking temp is 100
Shedding is an annoying frustrating time for them. It's very common for them to lose some of their appetite during a shed. If they aren't eating as much they won't be needing to bask/ digest as much.
So she's still not really basking
I'm wondering if it's when I removed the mesh screen top.
I don't want to put it back on because I heard it blocks UV
She's always wanted to bask when the mesh screen was on top
What do you guys think?
Will she start to bask again, maybe she needs to get used to it without a mesh top
Ok I'm glad the appetite came back. Did removing the mesh make the rest of the tank cooler? You might want to try lowering the solarglo a bit to bump the temp closer to 105. How long have you had the solarglo? They do degrade with time.
Well the light was on top of the mesh
Maybe it cooled down.
The other day it was 105, she still wouldn't bask.
I've had it for 3 months & I replace it next month
I've noticed ever since I took off that mesh top, she doesn't want to bask like she used to.
Maybe just give it some time?
Or should I put the mesh screen back on
Okay so I dunno what the problem is
She's not eating nearly as much & she's losing weight
I got a clean fecal march 3rd
could this be respiratory infection?
She's been making clicking noises with her mouth
The clicking noises aren't too noticeable
Or can they lose weight during a shed?
She just got done with her shed today.
Her weight was a stable 798G then it goes down to 781G which is today so 17G in a week is what she lost.
Fecal screening was negative
I have a vet appointment Monday
& I will post some photos soon
EDIT:
Here she is
She did eat 9 supers today
I hope it was just her shed making her act this way
Nearly 800g is huge lol.
And 9 supers is a pretty good amount. When I had adults I was feeding them 5 supers max a day or every other day. Supers are very fattening you should limit the amount of supers for sure. Sure they can eat more, but they dont need to eat more.
Imo yours can afford to lose some weight, although in the picture she doesnt really look fat. How long is she?
