Yep, that patch shedding is a pain & that's how he's going to shed for the rest of his life. They get so grumpy when they're shedding, too. And I agree about cleaning off poop in the tank. I was lucky today, 5 poops from 5 dragons and only 1 in his tank & it was on a facecloth, so it was a very easy day today.
Norris got hugs all around. He is sacked out on top of his log. For some reason he never "goes to bed" like some beardies do. He usually sleeps in his basking spot.
His face is so messy right now. In addition to his regular greens, he gets a salad topper. It is normally squash but I picked up some really sweet black berries and blue berries so I've been trading out every other day between something blue to something orange. He goes crazy and his face certainly is stained. I only give him one blackberry or two blue berries...the mess is WAY beyond the ratio of the size of his treat!
Just a quick update:
I've been wondering when he was going to plump up a bit. Big weight gain since December! Norris is now at 595grams!
Not to shabby for a guy who started out a runt!
Sorry for the lack of photos. I need to post a video of him attacking his food so you can see how that weight has happened. He is a threat to salad everywhere!
We are lucky in more than just that. We are lucky we found this site the same week we brought him home. Although I asked repeatedly if we had everything we needed for his good health, we weren't told about a UVB bulb...infact, we were given a lot of unhelpful information. I had a job where I occasionally helped take care of a bearded dragon (which is where I fell in love with them) and I knew it was a little off so I started looking for better information. Thank goodness this is one of the first sites I found!
Norris has had a tiny salad in his viv since almost the first day. He ignored it completely day after day! Sometimes he would take a bit of green off my fingers, though... Actually, his first independent interest in salad is also my first blog post on this thread. I made him a humungous salad for his 5 week anniversary and he ran for it! At first he would only eat salad if I put mango or blueberries on it...we've weened him off of that though he still gets squash and occasional fruit treats. He still likes to see something colorful but will eventually eat it, regardless.
EDIT: well, I thought I'd film Norris attacking his salad and I gave him a blackberry as a treat...he swallowed it almost whole. Now I'm going to worry about stomach aches! As soon as I can figure out my vid making program, I'll post it.
He's doing really well, I'm so glad to hear this, I love this site, I've been a member for 6 years now and 2 of my dragons got healthy because of the great advice I got here. Because of that I've been able to keep my crew healthy for all these years and just because one moderator decided to answer my questions and help me. I love to be able to do the same thing to other new owners who are given bad advice from pet stores (happens so often, more often than being given good advice) and then find out that their beardies are happy and healthy and just wonderful. Thanks for keeping me updated on Norris and his healthy progress!
And the pic of him licking the camera is just priceless. I'm sure he'll be fine re: the blackberry, it's amazing what they'll eat that has no affect on him, and don't forget that blackberries are mainly juice with a hard piece in the middle, so no worries there.
Hi! All is well over here. I have new photos that are just sitting on the camera and I have a few days off so hopefully I can get some of them uploaded. Norris is doing very well but his chin is completely stained. No amount of bathing is going to get this off. I think he heard that a blackberry applied to the chin is very sexy and manly...perhaps it is because he hasn't really black bearded yet and he's trying to fake it?
I've used the toothbrush (which is tough because he wants to lick it constantly) and I think it is going to be there until his next shed. :?:
Yes, it'll come off in the next shed. Raspberry does the same thing, he must look so funny with a dark chin! Glad he's doing well, looking foward to pics.
still waiting to upload some new pictures. Norris is doing great. He did a weird thing a few weeks back that made me think he had a respiratory infection but no! Thank goodness! He is still a healthy lazy dragon. (unless he thinks there might be bugs about...then he is suddenly fierce!)
Just a quick note so folks know we are doing well.
