Hey I'm a new breadie owner and I've invested alot of time and effort into getting Torque's new enclosure together. Well today I was going to pick up Torque from the breeder and his Reptisun 10.0 UVB light and Heat lamp were supposed to be delivered today. Well guess what it didn't get deliver UPS screwed me big time. It was supposed to be delivered at 2pm as agreed with UPS and it never showed up. I picked up Torque at 1pm. So what i'm really worried about is UVB lighting and heat lamp how long can he go without his UVB source. I'm currently using a space heater right outside of his enclosure to keep him warm for now but I don't want the little guy to get ill. Any advice for now would be greatly appreciated.
He can live without a UVB source temporarily. He won't die if he doesn't have it for a few days. It's prolonged life without UVB that will make your dragon ill. You can put him in a warm bath for a little while if you want to warm him up. They are pretty resilient little guys , so he shouldn't have any adverse health effects if you don't have your lighting supplies yet. Just keep him warm in other ways if you can. However, I'm not sure whether or not a space heater is a good idea. It may be able to bake him through the glass. I don't know. though. Make sure to test the temperature with a digital thermometer often. Good luck and keep us posted!
Yea, you have nothing to worry about it you will get the light soon. I just got my first beardie(WALDO) about 2 weeks ago and he was 1 year old. The only thing he had for his whole life was a heat lamp, which didnt have UVB, and also he was being housed in Crushed Walnut Shells. And really the only thing UVB does is makes it harder for them to digest food, leaving possibly diareah or exoskelotons, in my expeirence, but It wont make him ill if only a couple days go by. Waldo is now under a Uvb and has green grass carpet and is perfectly fine. Good Luck!
Just wanted to add... Filling an old sock with rice or corn and sticking it in the microwave works great for a temporary heat source. Just put it in his viv, and he will lay on top of it. They can go a week or 2 with out UVB and be fine. If your worried, some natural sun light will also do the trick untill your Reptisun comes.
And congrats on your new baby!
Edit: You probably dont want to bathe him if you dont have a heat source right now- If they dont dry off from their bath, they can get fungus.
