Regarding no smells, oatmeal and such:
- Container was never used for something else. No smell.
What I meant was that there shouldn't be a plastic smell from the container. You know when you go into a hardware store and the plastic section smells like chemicals.

A few more words...
In my experience, the ideal female to male ratio for breeding is between 3:1 and 7:1. Below 3:1, males become overly aggressive. When this happens, high stress suppresses mating activity in the colony. This results in decreased productivity. Productivity also declines after a ratio of 7:1.
I suspect that some measure of "good stress" motivates mating, but this is just a guess.

Young individuals will die without access to water, and adults love to drink from it, I often see this
Okay, this is also something I did not do so far - access to liquid was only with vegetables and fruit. (Which was fine for the smallest roaches I got when I bought them, approx. 3-4 mm but might be indeed an issue when smaller.)

I know that smell, it's horrible - it's for sure not there. (Would never use such for animals/pets and not even for plants.) It is for food and I use a similar one from the same multi-pack for food.

To plan the growth of the colony, you can use this graph. This will allow you to calculate and at least somehow plan the growth rate of the colony at the very beginning of your journey. The graph is based on the growth rate of an individual from a baby to an imago capable of producing offspring, and the period between each subsequent birth of offspring in the female imago is also taken into account.

Thanks! In the beginning, however, I would be happy to see anything reproduce ;) (before we talk about, hopefully, really planning a growth rate)
I had looked up how long it takes and had taken that into account, also how adults look like (so didn't give up too early) and with I had so far it just didn't happen. Not a single offspring (size difference would be obvious).

You will succeed, just provide the right temperature. After that, you will determine the schedule.
On average, females give birth to the first batch of newborns in the amount of 20-30 pieces 70 days after mating. These newborns become adults in about 120 days. The schedule is about this.
Dubias are not the fastest guys in terms of reproduction, but once the colony reaches 200-300 females, an explosion occurs lol
Sorry if I am too chatty. It is hard to stop me, I can forever teach about roaches lol

No problem at all, as I want to get this fixed. I had always liked the idea of just breeding my dragon's food: less expensive, and I like being independent - my mindset is more "breeding and growing is what I will do as it's frugal, easy and convenient" than "breeding and growing - ah no, time intensive and I rather buy".

I saw you mentioned using cotton balls for water. I do the same, it helps keep them from drowning. I'll sometimes wad up paper towels, soak them, and put them in. But they dry out pretty fast. The cotton balls last several days, the paper towels 2 days tops.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
