hello all,
just wanted to thank everyone for the great information that you all share with each other on this site. its been a blessing.
Nia started her coccidia treatment today. the vet put her on Ponazuril. the dose is .1ml once a day for 21 days. is anyone know about this treatment? havent seen it mentioned around. (may not have looked in the right places).
i think she is finally feeling better. there for awhile she refused any and all food. she is now back to eating crickets. in fact yesterday and today she ate over 20 crickets each day. i have been hand feeding her with baby food (at least 1tsp a day, more if she will take it) and when she really refused to eat i put protein powder in the food. she is actually hunting the crickets now! thank goodness. her poops have been about every 1 1/2 weeks. which i hope will soon get more frequent. great advice on the applesauce. it works like a charm. haven't had to use the oil with it. oh and she is finally eating arugula, not much but its better than nothing. she seems to be attracted to the smell. really has no interest in other greens or fruit
she is in a 44 gal tank i have the tank a little smaller for the winter to keep the temps more accurate
reptisun 10 only 12" for the winter (getting longer when i make her cage bigger) it sits on top of the cage. 12" from her
i am using a night basking bulb at the moment for day and night (getting the chi)
basking temps are from 95-100
cool side during day is mid 80's can get down to 65 at night
slate tile (which i love)
prob thermometer
baths every other day for 15-20 mins
thanks again!
In a syringe thru the side of the mouth. Some take it easier than others. For the ones that struggle, you may want to use a small nipple (for kittens) so as not to injure their gums. I hold them like a football, then cup their head with the same hand, gently prying their lip down with a finger, then slid the syringe in. They will generally open their mouths just enough for you to squirt in.
well its been 16 days on the treatment. Nia is doing alot better. she moves around her viv all the time and doesn't try to hide on the cool side of the cage. she is back on live crickets and is eating mustard greens and arugula. i have offered apples, cucumber, blueberries but she doesn't even taste them. yesterday i brought home some crickets and she ate the whole carton of them! i dusted the first ones i was giving her and went to dump in the rest and she scooped them up in her jaw and had cricket parts flying everywhere. lol she is such a ham sometimes. she is getting back to her normal self. she loves to sit on her hammock and watch the cats and dog play.
she started shedding for the first time since i got her. it seems to be going well and she loves to sit in her baths now. she is only pooping every week and a half but has been on the "dot" each time. hopefully that will change as treatment goes on.
ya i have my beardie back! she is such a joy!!!
