ok, so nowhere on the web have i seen a picture that looked like my beardie, except here, and on the front page at that! the 2 beardies that show back and forth on the top header. the lighter smoother looking gray one. that's what mine looks like. what's up with it? i've seen many bearded dragons working at petsmart, but this one looks odd to me.
hard to ID any breeding without knowing the bloodline. Also Large pet chains are kinda crap but sometimes they'll have an unusual coloring in there somewhere.
Best I can say is to start looking at the different morphs and start learning about hypo's translucents, color morphs, leucistics, and other stuff, and see what you come up with. Also are your beardies toenails black or clear>?
If its a light grey then it is a normal colored one. There has been so much crossing with colorful morphs that normals are becoming hard to find. Oh and those pics at the top of the page are of the same dragon, one is just when she was younger.

Where did you get him? Thats a normal colored leatherback translucent. I've been after a normal leather for about 2 years now. He is very cool looking.
Can you please post more pics once he sheds his body? I'd appreciate it
EDIT: though you should know, the purple sand you are using is really dangerous. Even though it claims to be digestible, its not. It will actually clump into cement like globs in the guts and can cause fatal impactions. Not to mention it will eventually dye your dragon purple. Dragons, especially babies are better off on solid flooring.

yeah started reading that after i got him, only had him for 2 days, this is day two, got him last night. i'll switch it out and give the sand to my sand boa. what kind of solid flooring? i work at petsmart in the pet care department (that's where i got him. we get our herps from sandfire) and i know how annoying it is to find all their feeders under the fake grass matt.
also i breed blaptica dubia. any problems with them as feeders? note i'm better with my arthropods. this is my 1st beardie. got him 'cause of how odd he looked, also bigger then we usually get them. also decorations are spares i had, i want to give him a better set up soon.
also how can you tell it's a translucent? in my research i can't seem to tell the difference between trans and not (then again i can't seem to tell most beardie morphs apart, pictures of so called sunbursts look like the regular beardies in petstores to me). and how big till if it was a male i might see pre anal pores? sexing is hard.
I think the translucesnts have black eyes and they appear more 'see through' they can have a blue tinted tummy.
The sexing gets easier as they get older.
For substrate you can use Tile, Shelf Liner/Lino, Paper towels, Reptile Carpet.
Also the type and brand of UVB is very important for beardes, you need to make sure you have a tube UVB, either Repti-SUN 10.0 or Arcaida D3 12% UVB. Both can be purchased online.

yeah just read the black eye thing which he does have pure black eyes. got him on sale too for 44 dollars.
crap. i remember reading that months ago. now i need a tube . ok. so i'll order a tube right now. tile... sounds alright, reading about one guy with slate tile to help with the nail trimming. that sounds nice. will stone tiles get too hot?
how much bigger till you think i can sex for pre anal pores or lack there of in females.
Translucent have reduced/absent white pigment in their skin giving them a "gummy candy" appearance when young. It won't be as noticeable in a adult. Also, since he is a tran, it can be too early to tell what color he might turn. They are often greyish/bluish when young but develop more oranges as they grow.
Yeah I thought we sold repti sun but we don't I'll grab one at exotic pets tomorrow. Getting a reptile carpet today at work. I'll use tile on the future 40 gallon. He's about 8 inches now so I'll be upgrading soon.
how do people make that fake rock background and basking spots? it looks like a foamy calk. is there a how to on building fake rock structures for bearded dragons?
is it his body shedding? i thought it could go either way, body shedding or finishing head shedding. i can't quite tell. should i give him a warm soak to help?
Most are made with sheets of Styrofoam cut into shapes, glued together then covered with grout. There should be how to guide in the enclosure or DIY forum.
Totally leather!! That's a cute littel guy!! I love my franklin but I've been thinking about a leather for a bit now If I ever get room to expand my situation
