I will be getting my first bearded dragon in a few weeks, and I have a few questions about my setup. I was going to get a bearded dragon about a year ago but had to put it on hold for a while. I had purchased a bunch of supplies including a UVB bulb. I know they are supposed to be replaced every six months, but since I didn't actually use it for a year, do I still need to replace it or should it be ok?
Also, I was considering the possibility of having a set up at my work so I could bring my beardie to my job at an elementary school. However, I would not want to leave it there all the time, I would bring it to work in the morning and bring it home at night. For my set up at work, I was thinking of getting a large clear plastic storage tub (with the appropriate lights and accessories), if I can find one large enough. My questions are, is having a bin set up an acceptable option for work, and is bringing my beardie to work a good idea at all? Would the constant movement be stressful to a beardie or would it become accustomed to it?
I wouldn't bring it to work for at least 6 months.
I wouldn't use a plastic bin ever, I'd just get another fish-tank type viv. If you want that as a long term option I'd try to get at least a 50 gallon tank for work, preferably 75 gallon since that will likely be where he spends most of his waking time. Or you could just go for a 4X2X2 "wooden" enclosure.
Since you really shouldn't be shuffling him back and fourth for a while that will give you time to watch craigslist for a good enclosure.
