Hi all! I'm a snake owner, and I've thought many times before of getting bearded, but never have until now. In a pet shop the other day I found an adult who had been sent in for consignment. Of course I couldn't resist.
In the two weeks that Augustus (nn Auggie) has been living with me, I've changed his diet (he was eating only lettuce and crickets before), added some light and heat (his old light kept his cage temp at about 80F), and started to handle him a bit. He's very nervous, and I get the feeling he's been dropped in the past. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.
Anyway, I'm happy to have found this place. I'm sure I'll be able to make Auggies life even better with help from the good folks here.
Welcome! They suffer from relocation stress the first week or two, so don't be worried about his eating habits ... Here's a bunch of info to help you out with him ...
Here's a good salad suggestion site. It should be offered daily to them. Lettuce isn't very nutritional. Mustard greens, turnip greens, and collard greens are good staple greens:
And if you are buying a UVB, stay away from ESU ones. They don't work at all. MVBs are good. The T-Rex and the Megarays are nice. Or you can get the Reptiglo or Reptisun 8.0 or 10.0 striplights ...
Here are some links to shop for better light prices and other supplies online:
Also ... make sure the basking temps are 105-110 and the cool side is in the low 80s and that you have a temp for them of 60-65 degrees at night for sleeping.
They like bathing and misting as well. This helps keep them hydrated.'
And as for supplements ... I recommened the RepCal and Herptivite. They can safely be used together and great products. The calcium needs to be nonphosphorous to aid in the digestion of calcium for your dragon.
Your beardie is REALLY cute...with the yellow around the eye and stuff.
I'm new to this site too...you'll find everyone here is UBER helpful. We just finished dealing with relocation stress, which might of been just as stressful for us, as it was for our baby beardies. It's day four, and everything as it seems, is normal. You'll probably find the same too.
