hi all
got my dragon a new tank about a week ago as i thought his old one wasnt big enough, and he was always running into the glass so i decided to get a wooden one. best choice ive made, it looks better, holds the heat better and its cheaper to run
anyway here are some pictures tell me what you think and what i could improve
You definitely need to get a basking light b/c this is how they digest their food.. Do u have a thermometer with a probe on the end of it? I think I see one in there.. The CHE should b used at night only if the temps drop below 65.. The uvb doesn't give off heat...What are the dimensions of your viv? I have a 4x2x2 and I have a 45w indoor flood bulb for my basking spot.. a 24" uvb and a 60w CHE for night time and I actually have a 40w regular household bulb on the cool end to regulate the temp... Here is a pic of my viv to kinda see how I have it set up... You can get the fixture for a larger uvb @ walmart.. thats where i got mine.. U really do have an awesome looking viv though..
the CHE is a 150 watt and that is controlled by a habbistat dimming stat and that get my temps on the hot side to 95 105 it varies between them. i have a digital thermometer that runs in on the left hand side near the bottom you can just make it out.
so i should turn the CHE off during the day and get a 150 watt spot bulb? or could i go for a lower wattage and leave CHE on all the time and the basking bulb for the day or would that not work?
and your tanks awesome too did you build it your self?

What would do is turn the CHE off during the day and just have a basking bulb.. I just use a regular household bulb for my basking bulb.. Its a 45w indoor flood bulb.. The 150w spot bulb maybe too hot.. But u said u have a dimmer so u could use that and see if u could regulate the temps like that.. Thanks.. yes we did build our own viv..
il try that the but i dont think any lower wattage would be enough to get the temps up. the basking spot is supposed to be 100 isnt it?
it might have to wait a month though as im abit short on money just spent a load getting the tank and a few bits for it
he should be alrite for a bit longer though shouldnt he?
thanks

I tried every bulb from 100w to a 50w and everything was way to hot my basking spot wasn't any lower than 115.. The bulb I have now the 45w indoor flood keeps my basking spot 105-108.. It really depends on ur Viv and the temps in ur house..
well my house is fairly cold during the winter months -11 on christmas day so il just try some out and see what i get
thanks for your help il post some pics when i have it all done
here it is now with the basking bulb went out and got it 5 days ago and setr it up the same day. all the temps on the basking spot are good about 100f.
Looks nice. I don't know the type of bulb you got but my vet recommended a GE Reveal bulb. They actually have the full color spectrum which doesn't mean anything to us but the way he explained it to me was that the beardies can actually see the colors in the light (was how I understood it). I had a regular bulb in mine at 1st and needed a higher watt when I moved puff into his bigger enclosure so I tried one of the reveal bulbs, WOW what a diff it made. Puff perked up also and really seems to enjoy it. Not a need to change just thought I would throw it out there. They make em in a lot of diff wattage also.
