Hello. I’m fairly new to bearded dragons and reptiles in general, but I think I’ve been handling it well. I built a custom tank for my bearded dragon that I got at about 3 months old. That tank had an open top, but I was able to maintain temperature and humidity well. Three weeks ago, I purchased a larger tank for him and since moving into the new tank, he has been stressed, glass surfing and trying to get out in 20 minute or so instances continuously throughout the day.
The new tank is a 40 gallon Thrive glass tank. It has a closed top this time. The temperature and humidity levels are correct, better so than the open top tank. My beardie has access to food and water throughout the day, food being greens daily, juvenile bearded dragon diet two days a week, and bsfl as his core insect. About every two weeks, I supply him with crickets, dubias, or both and they last about a week.
He has a linear uvb bulb, and it was purchased and set up for him around the first of the year.
He never acted like this in his old cage. He glass surfed occasionally, but that was near the beginning and I think he was just getting used to everything during that time. But ever since he entered the new cage, he has been adamant on getting out. When I allow him to roam, he will go to the window to look outside a little while, but not too long after, he begins running around like crazy and scratching at things like the door, the bath tub, etc. I have tapestries and he has tried to climb those as well. He never acts aggressive, never turns dark colors or turns his beard black, he just acts crazy.
I don’t understand why he is acting the way he is, I’m lost because I feel like I’m doing everything right but clearly something is wrong.
If anybody has any ideas, please shout it out!
Thanks.
