Dusty is our new classmate. He/she spends the day at school with the students and in the evenings with my family. If you would like to see our new bearded dragon and help us out we have a Gofund me page. Thanks for all the great information on this forum.
Welcome! Is Dusty in a classroom that has adult supervision the whole time & how old are your students? I'm glad to hear he goes home at night so that his environment can be controlled and he's not left on his own. I know that older students, esp. the boys, can sometimes be intentionally cruel to classroom pets, so it's important that he's always looked after. For the younger set, supervised handling is a must because beardies are fragile critters despite their hardy appearance. If you have any questions about keeping him safe & healthy, definitely don't hesitate to ask!
Hi, Thank you for your concern. The students are 7th graders and they DO NOT handle Dusty. Dusty sits in his/her tank on my desk so I can watch him throughout the day. The only one I allow to touch him at this point is either myself or my son who is the same age as my students but he only handles Dusty when we are at home. Dusty seems to like my son more than me at this point. Dusty is only a couple of months old so he is still very skittish when we handle him so we only handle him for a few minutes a day. We are new to the bearded dragon world but my son is really enjoying having Dusty around.
