Hello,
So I just moved my little guy over to a larger tank. It's a 40 gallon tank 36x18x18, I have non adhesive shelf liner for substrate, probe thermometers but also use a gun too and a reptisun T5 10.0 bulb that is secured to the inside top of the screen, I did this because the mesh is really small holes and its coated black. I think my main question is is the uvb placed correctly and is it too close to his little climbing things? Any improvements or changes you think I should make would be very welcomed! Thanks in advance. Here's a couple of pics so you can see the setup the first pic is the warm side the other is the cool side, then one of Drako him or herself.

Hi there,

The tank looks nice. What is the distance from the t5 to the basking spot and to the floor? As long as it's around 10~ from the basking surface, you should be good :)

Thanks for getting back to me, I've been stressing and second guessing myself all day about attaching the uvb light inside but also felt like if it was on the screen it was inadequate. His main basking area is 12" to the bulb, 15" from the floor and about 7" from those tall pieces in the back area. I also have the 5.0 bulb that came with the hood so I wasn't sure if that'd be the better choice? Will he be ok with the 10.0 even if he hangs out on the higher areas sometimes?
Thanks again,
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
No, your distances right now are perfect. That's how your bulb should be set up.

Hi All! I was going to ask a similar question to the original posters and I think its been answered but my little one has started hanging out very high in some leaves. He seems to be basking a little less too. Is it because he isn't getting appropriate uvb and he's trying to get closer to it? He has only been in our home for a couple days too so we thought maybe he's hiding a little too.

I have a T5 10.0 on top of the mesh. I know its a stronger light so I was concerned about putting in the enclosure. Its a 40 gallon 36x18x18. Picture to show what he's been doing. Thanks for the advice.

Hello, I have had no issues having my uvb inside the enclosure that is the same size as yours. I attached it to the screen. His main basking area is about 3 inches tall.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
