New enclosure for Foxy

Earlier I wrote that I was going to change the design of Foxy's terrarium.
I have long wanted to give up the all-glass terrarium in favor of a wooden one. I had my own design for his new home, but there was absolutely no time to make what I came up with. I really wanted to do it myself, I knew exactly what and how to do it, so finding a joiner who would implement my crazy ideas was not easy, but I found him. Yesterday I picked up Foxy's new house and I want to share it with you! Now it stands next to the walking area so that Foxy can climb there and get used to it, I want to minimize the stress of the relocation. There is no grate on the top of the terrarium yet, it has not been made yet, because I do not yet know where his basking area will be and where his UV light and heating lamp should be located. As I eliminate these shortcomings, I will update this topic.
In the meantime, here are some photos.

Oh man that looks friggen AWESOME 👌 I love the design, with the trim you chose it looks more like a piece of really nice decore and not just a rectangular box. Really it is quite elegant. I can't wait to see Foxy's finished home. I like that he is able to see/explore it coming together to. Like you planned that should minimize his relocation stress. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍

That is a piece of art, I can't wait to see the end result.
So the back is fully wood, sides and front are glass and the top will be a mesh?

I love working with wood, it's my hobby. I like carpentry, so the perfectionist in me would rebel if I just made a box.
Also, I wanted the enclosure to be safe, so I chose oak as the material, and the finish is water-based stain and polyurethane varnish.

Yes, that's right. The back wall and bottom are wooden, the sides are glass, and the front has hinged glass doors. The top is a frame that can be removed, and there will be a mesh inside the frame. Today I went to the car market and bought a protective mesh for radiators, probably @xp29 knows what I'm talking about. It should suit my purposes.

Actually that's a terrific idea 💡
The holes are plenty wide enough to allow the uvb to pass through or to easily mount it underneath if that is preferred.
I'll have to keep that ipn mind.
When I finally ever have hatchlings that will be great for the top. (I'll build my own habitats for them)
I bookmarked and renamed the bookmark so I can find it again when the time comes.

I think this is a great idea.

The plan reminds me very much of those days when I made the plans for Taco's enclosure and had to look around for a company who can make it, and then made the lid on my own.

And with "rebel if I just made a box", I can understand this so (!) much.
Reminds me when I made the sliding lid for my hissing cockroach enclosure. My husband (not so much into such work) suggested that I should just put a cutting board with holes on top of it (and maybe cut out the center and glue in some mosquito net), and put a stone on top so the roaches won't be able to lift it... I wanted a nice sliding lid instead an made it :) I just could not be happy with the cutting board solution, It would make me mad looking at it.

The mesh looks great :) I used hardware cloth for making the top of Taco's tank, but it was (even literally) a pain to bend over every single wire to keep it from coming apart. With that one, this won't be necessary.

Thank you! I like to do as much as possible myself. I always think that if someone does it for me, they will definitely make a mistake and do it worse than I could, lol.

Guys, forgive me for rarely writing in the forum now. I have a terrible backlog at work and I can barely cope with household chores. But I try to read and keep up with everything that is happening here.

A small update on the house for Foxy.
We have cold weather again and I can’t start painting in my small workshop:mad:. I have prepared everything I need to make the mesh. I bought oak boards, I bought varnish and stain, made a router table for milling grooves and am only waiting for warm weather to move forward.
But while I can’t work in the workshop because of the cold, I am trying to do something at home. I made a removable background from beech bark.

Once Foxy posed on tiles made of this bark and I posted a photo.

Foxy is doing well, it seems the peak of the spring fever has passed and he has begun to lead a more measured way of life. Although, maybe it is because of the bad weather.
But he says hello to everyone!

I understand this very well. This was the reason why I then did the tank lid on my own. That I could do - does not require a workshop (I made it on the balcony with some hand tools; do not have a workshop, live in an 13th floor apartment with rather strict rules on "noise from tools" despite they see party noise quite relaxed *sigh*). The tank itself, however, I could not do it as not having the tools and other setup. I could plan it, I would even know how to make it, but not execute it at home.

I can understand it very much. To be honest, I'm quite reluctant when I do something and my husband (kindly) asks whether he can help.
If I cannot do it myself, great, thanks for the help (e.g.: lifting something too heavy for me, work that requires more than 2 hands). Otherwise, I rather do it myself for exactly the reason you mention: I suspect a higher chance of failure. (Realistically, that's the case.) And if I really do it wrong - you know: measure twice, cut once, or measure once... ;) - then it is my own fault.

I like very much the sand and the bark, btw. I love naturalistic enclosures and I bet Foxy will be very happy.

I also live in an apartment, but on the 16th floor. And here we are also not recommended to make noise. That's why I built a workshop in the garage where we park the car. It has two floors, so I settled on the second floor. Everything is arranged here so that next to the apartment building there is a site with a large number of garages, this is an excellent solution for me. I can saw, plane and maintain woodworking machines there.

Your solution is great :)

The thing with the garage would not be possible here, however. (We do have one parking spot which we rent out as we don't need it, and even if keeping it, it's an underground parking lot and there are strict rules that it is only to be used to park cars, and not for anything else. Not for parking bicycles, not for storage etc.)

Generally, I'm a very quiet person, never partying, you'd never hear music out of our apartment, and for sure would not drill and saw all night long ;) - it just annoys me somewhat that e.g. drilling or filing a bit on Sunday afternoon is no-no, whereas having a full-blown party from 7pm to 7am (not exaggerating) on workdays is totally fine.

We are probably lucky because we are not allowed to make noise in our house, regardless of the source of the noise.
Sometimes someone breaks the rules, but this happens very rarely.
