my Beardie just laid 31 eggs and I'm wondering if you have any suggestions to be successful in the hatching? Anything would be helpful I have them in a incubator at 82 degrees in moist vermiculite and I have water in a bowl for humidity. thanks
What type of incubator are you using? I usually keep mine at 84-85 degrees. Are you keeping track of humidity? Youll need to make sure the water isnt causing it to be too humid and you dont have water building up on lids and dripping on eggs.
While 82 degrees will work as an incubating temperature we like to keep our temps around the 84 – 87 range, just personal preference. If they are in moist vermiculite in a covered holder the added water dish is not necessary. If they are not in a covered holder that may be a different story. It really depends on how your incubator and egg holder are set up. Good luck!
Personally we have lids on all of our egg bins and have never had an issue with humidity or need to add additional water to the vermiculite. If there is excessive moisture and the lid develops condensation a few air holes in the top will allow for excessive moisture escape. Condensation on the sides will show that the humidity level is sufficient.
Ive always kept lids on my egg bins with holes in the lid or sides as needed to allow moisture to escape. Ive had an occasion where I may have to moisten once right before they hatch but in most cases Ive never had a problem with it and never needed a water bowl
