New Discovery!

Up until I got Cammy, Turbo had only black-beareded/puffed up twice. (When my cat startled him right after I got him and he was just a baby). It was only isntinct that took over him, I dont think he knew what he was doing (he was a teeny lil thing).

So up until I brought cammy home, he never puffed up or turned his beard black or anything, pretty peaceful lil fella.

BUT NOW! He does it all the time. He must have discovered that he can do it. ESPECIALLY at bath time. After a few minutes, he gives me the beard. Jet black. (Pretty good for a 5 month old). He will stomp around in there, and smash his tail around, to make making noise. He black beards & head bobs if I have Cammy out. He does it when he can't even see her. Her existance has brought the disruptive male out of him.

Which leads me to this question. Cammy's only reaction to him is waving. Can females black beard? Generally they are more passive, but if frightened or just being agressive will they black beard? My lil girl has never shown any signs of bearding or black bearding (only bearding a lil bit trying to loosen a shed, however her beard is nothing compareds to how big Turbo's gets).

Bless him. He thinks he's a big boy!
I think its more than likely he's discovering he has hormones since you brought a girl home. Its brought out the stud in him /wink.
Alot of beardie males go through puberty when they have a tendency to blackbeard everything and become little brats.
Perhaps Cammy nudged him into it!

Personally I dont think females are more passive than males. Dex was feral when we took her in. Bites, scratches and hissing!
But I do think black beards are more frequent in males, but girls can beard. My girl has done so to me on one occasion before (when I put her on the windowsill of DOOOOOM). Females seem to prefere to just puff their beards. Dex does so every bath time, at the evil water.

Hope your little studmuffin settles down! hehe.

As far as females being more passive, i more so meant in reaction to eachother. Males tend to be more dominant/agressive. As far as overall behavior It certainly does vary greatly per beardy.

Turbo is still a sweetheart, he hasnt gone into the puberty I've heard of many other lil guys go through. Im hoping it doesnt come along. I just cant picture him harming a fly... a crix maybeh ;)
