New beardie owners

So we adopted our beardie in August and love him to death. He is such a good boy. Saturday night we gave him a bath and helped with his tail shed with a tooth brush. Today my fiancé looked and his tail was different. We are scared to death about tail rot. It’s not mushy. It’s a little hard. What is this. He is not lethargic and still eats his 15-20 crickets and roaches for dinner and mustard greens.

I agree with @KarrieRee it's likely just shed.
Tail rot isn't just going to happen, it's a result of some injury or trauma. It is literally dead/dying flesh. It does happen sometimes but all in all it's pretty rare. It is usually from a bite from beardies being housed together or the tail getting slammed or pinched in the door ect.
