Hello. I recently got my dragon 2 weeks ago. He loves mustard greens which I was told is shocking being 2 months old. Loves dubias and occasionally mealworms. This is his enclosure. I plan on getting a much bigger cage in a couple months and going to get the long UVB lightinstead of the dome I currently have. My question is about his basking spot…he don’t want to fully lay on it and I checked the temperature was 104 so he lays kind of angled. The basking light is only 75w. The temperature on the digital temp over in the basking area is around 90. I feel the basking spot he lays on gets too hot. I tried switching do different basking things he could lay on and they all get about 104ish but could be higher. Do I need a less watt bulb?

Hi Angel, he's in the spot that feels the best to him. It is pretty important to get the long uvb bulb now though or he won't get the uvb now at this critcal stage of life. Get a Reptisun 10.0 t5 or Arcadia D5 12-14% t5 ASAP.

Yes I was getting that bulb in a couple weeks. But I was worried because from what I read up it said to now have it over 105 for basking that it’s to much. The temperature stick I use only got to 105 and it went to that temperature immediately.

What is this "temperature stick"? What you need is a digital probe thermometer. Using anything else is inaccurate, including those stick-on stripes which I guess you mean by "temperature stick", and also temperature guns.
If unsure, you can post a picture of what you use to measure the temperature.

So I bought one from the pet store and it doesn’t stick on anywhere. I just lay it down on top of the area that I want to get a temperature of and it tells me and then I have some disposable stick that I got from my doctors office that I have used as well, attached pictures of both of them below

Can you please attach the images? It hast not worked yet.

But what you describe are non-reliable ways to measure the temperature. Please get a digital probe thermometer, they are not expensive (from 5 USD on).

Just under 105 is perfect for basking! Make sure he isn’t too close to it to prevent burns- also try getting a dimmer if you feel it’s too hot anyways. Those can really help when in doubt.

use two sided tape stick the reader on the side of the tank and the probe you can wrap around the reader when not in use for the surface basking spot- the reader will give ambient temps as well but your probe will get the surface basking spot temps - check every couple of weeks

This thread is 6 months old so these things were probably all addressed. It would be nice to see how Glenn is doing now anyway though !

Hello,

It is hard to always remember to notice the initial date of the OP's thread! I agree, it would be great to
hear how Glenn is doing now!

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
