Last weekend my gf and I had become owners of a bd. We have been researching and reading on bd's. Then the wknd b4 last we met a couple with 2 adult dragons..which finalized us wanting one. Not sure of the sex, tried the different methods and so far no conclusion. Not sure the exact age but from tail tip to nose tip he measures 7 1/2". Hates bath time...altho does drink from the dish. Likes his pellets and carrots and corn...not too keen with the greens tho. As far as a name we're thinking Yoda...but would like to figure out sex for sure. We had got him a tree stump like decor...which is his/her fav place to sleep...its funny when the lights go out, up the tree he goes..and passes out. Some of his manners trip me out..like after cricket time the way he lays flat with mouth open and 1 back leg stuck straight out....like hes so full he cant move. Updates later and pics later when I get a card reader that works...til then
Using a reg. house hold flood light bulb for the basking lamp..gets the temp up to about 103. We are using a 2 bulb fixture for the uvb. Each bulb is a Repit sun 10.0 flourescent...suckers are expensive compared to some others..but read on here its worth the extra bucks. Using tile substrate...have 1 digital thermometer which measures the basking spot along with a stick on analog. On the other side we have a analog to measure the cool side.
Does your digital have a probe at the end? If not, I would suggest getting one. It's the only accurate way to measure your basking temp other than a temp gun. You can get a digital w/probe at Walmart in the outdoor section. You have the right UV. Tile is good. I would also get rid of the analog and stick on b/c they can be like 10 degrees off! You can use the digital w/probe to measure both the cool and basking temps. You can also find the digital w/probe at baskinglizards.com. Also, you could use a temp gun instead of a digital w/probe. The advantage of a gun is that all you do is point and shoot. I can't wait to see pics of your beardie!
