Our new baby Gandhi has been home for 2 weeks and has stopped eating for a few days. He was eating about 50 small locusts a day last week but will only take waxworms now. I know these are meant to be a treat and not a staple so concerned about filling him up on those alone. But so far today he has only eaten 2 waxworms and is ignoring the hoppers.
He is still alert, active and seems happy but it is worrying. Any advice would be fantastic.
Hi there, just cut out the waxworms. They are very fatty + filling and beardies will snub other foods for them. If he doesn't begin to eat normally within a week then you might opt to get a fecal test done to check for parasite.
Thanks... I had a feeling that was the way to go. TBH I was worried that he wasn't getting enough food so thought it better to give him the worms than have him starve... but we'll drop the waxworms and hope he gets hungry for hoppers again.
I've ordered a silk worm colony and we'll be moving onto that as his main food in once they arrive.
He's yet to touch a vegetable! But his hoppers are chowing down on dandelions so I'm not worried about that.
